Life Gets Better camps have been conducted twice a year (around Mother’s Day and Father’s Day) since 1999. The camps are for primary aged children (from 6 to 12 years of age - Grades 1 to 6) and their parents or carers, who have gone through trauma, grief, divorce or loss. The camps are a time of joy and refreshment in a caring, Christian environment. Children get to connect with others who have gone through similar circumstances and are encouraged that life can get better.
Life Gets Better camps provide encouragement, support and individual mentors (buddies) to children. Activities include: craft, giant swing, flying fox, canoeing, archery and heaps more! The camps are staffed by volunteers from the community who are trained by CHIPS and have a current Working With Children’s Check. Our camping partner (the Phillip Island Adventure Resort) provides us with great facilities, enthusiastic staff and discounted services, so we can assist the disadvantaged in being able to attend.
The camps receive wonderful feedback from welfare agencies, schools, parents and students and are open to all children aged 6 to 12, regardless of their family’s background or beliefs.
CHIPS relies on donations and fundraising events to provide these camps each year.
NB: Life Gets Better Camps are currently "on hold" for 2024.
