The City of Casey recognised a number of outstanding citizens and groups for their community spirit, passion and dedication through the 2016 Casey Australia Day Awards.
Council announced the winners of the five individual categories and two group awards, chosen from more than 35 notable nominees, at a special ceremony held on Australia Day at the City of Casey Civic Centre.
Speaking at the event, City of Casey Mayor Cr Sam Aziz congratulated all the winners and thanked them for their invaluable contribution to the local community.
"I congratulate you on being involved in civic life and being part of something that matters – it makes me incredibly proud that the City of Casey has a strong and capable community.
"Many of you are actively involved in providing the opportunities that allow us all to enjoy the lifestyle we are celebrating today on Australia Day.
"I am honoured to see people like you at work in the community, seizing upon challenges and opportunities, filling needs and making things happen around you for the benefit of everyone.
"As individual nominees and groups, you work quietly throughout the year, without fuss and without seeking recognition - driven to contribute to health, welfare, cultural and sporting opportunities and emergency response simply because you care.
"Your contribution to the City of Casey does not go unnoticed and as we celebrate Australia’s great history, we celebrate you all who will no doubt play a role in Australia’s bright future," Cr Aziz concluded.
