CHIPS Chaplaincy Positions

December 2, 2021 by chipsor

CHIPS has Chaplaincy Positions available at various times throughout the year, so we are always keen to hear from Chaplains who are passionate about assisting children who have experienced trauma, grief or loss in their lives.

If this sounds like you, please read the details below and email us your CV. We’d love to hear from you!

A bit about us: Established in 1999 and incorporated in 2003, CHIPS is a non-profit organisation based in the south-eastern suburbs of Melbourne. CHIPS is well known in the local area for working with primary aged children in crisis and has won the Casey Volunteer Organisation of the Year Award in 2010 and 2014.

CHIPS’ Chaplaincy program is unique as it is a “team model” of Chaplaincy. As a result, CHIPS provides Chaplains and programs which are tailor-made to suit each individual school’s needs. During crisis times (such has fire, floods or death) the Chaplaincy team, community groups and various volunteers associated with CHIPS, help to provide food parcels, respite care and home support. All the programs, services, seminars, camps and support listed on the CHIPS website (www.chips.org.au) are available to our Chaplaincy schools.

Chaplains may:

-work as a member of the school’s well-being team in the delivery of student well-being services
-contribute to improving student engagement and connectedness
-contribute to providing a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment
-provide pastoral care and guidance to students
-operate within the school community and with external providers

This role is suited to team players who are passionate about working with primary aged students and their families and who have an understanding of Trauma Informed Practice.

Successful candidates will have the ability to:

relate to female and male students; deliver both individual and group sessions; form positive connections with school leadership teams, teachers, support staff and parents/guardians; meet the minimum qualification requirements:

Applicants must have a minimum Certificate IV in Youth Work, or Certificate IV in Chaplaincy and Pastoral Care (or equivalent qualification), as well as a current Working With Children’s Check and Police Check.

The minimum qualification must include the following units of competency:

• Work with people with mental health issues (CHCMHS001); and
• Respond to client needs (CHCCCS016), which includes making appropriate referrals.

Applications must include a covering letter, CV and two referees.

Applications should be directed to CHIPS’ Office Manager- Mrs Cathy Wieckmann via enquiries@chips.org.au

(Previous applicants need not apply.)

Why has CHIPS created a shop?

October 5, 2020 by chipsor

“Why has CHIPS created a shop?” we hear you ask. Great question!

Here’s the answer…

During 2020, CHIPS provided support for over 2,000 children (through our in-school wellbeing program), 1,000+ home activity packs (for isolated children), PD’s for over 400 teachers, as well as dedicated crisis support to families and school staff.

CHIPS’ support for children and families in crisis is needed more than ever, as (apart from the effects of Covid and the extended Lockdown) police reports of domestic violence in the area have jumped between 25-30% on the same time last year.

Everything we do relies on volunteers and the support of amazing people like you, but we also needed to think of another way to generate funds.

Enter CHIPS’ shop!

When you purchase a product from CHIPS, apart from being a quality item and supporting other local, Australian businesses, the profits made will be going back into CHIPS’ programs which assist children and families in crisis.

So please, support CHIPS. Buy something from our shop and spread the word…EVERY little bit helps.
